Opportunity cost

The amount of resources you invest in something should be evaluated by its opportunity cost as well. When you spend $1 in something, you can get a significant Return on Investment, but the point is if there is another option that could lead to evenhigher returns.

If you put your energy and passion in something, it’s because you feel that it’s what you should do. Any time spent on things that don’t matter is waste. Avoid it.

Focus on what you love.

Empathy

and learning continuously is much better than chasing money. If you start thinking only about money and you don’t get in love somehow with the idea you have, and the clients that have put their confidence on you, you will lose your main motivation. Maybe it will be better if your start trading in stock markets or playing with other financial means. Don’t forget you are creating something because your potential customer is willing to pay for what you are doing. You are looking forward to make them improve, you should think about them and not about you. Always. No doubt. This is empathy. This is customer engagement. This is the primary objective. This is what engagement is about. Marketing. If you only want to grow your sales figures, you will caught on a trap. Of course, they are important. But they are not the goal.

Do what you love

There was a time when people finished college and they started working for a company, which was their only company for all their life. Even if they didn’t enjoy it and they got bored. Even if their values and those from the company were completely different. But they had to paid the mortgage and sustain their families. A minimum of eight hours per day totally wasted.

Nowadays, things have changed. The number of opportunities out there are so huge that if you don’t love what you do is because you are lazy. There are no excuses. You spend so many hours at work that it needs to fulfil you, it has to be aligned with your long term goals. Where do you want to be several years ahead from now? Think about it and start planning your whole life to get there.

Otherwise you won’t be satisfied. And if you are not happy, you cannot make others feel happy. So do what you love.
