Important things

It’s important for others or because it’s related to you? Don’t get puzzled with this. Maybe you feel that what you are doing will change other people’s lives, but in fact nobody cares about it. Sometimes you feel a feature will be the key success factor for your product, but in real life nobody is using it. The main objective of your marketing tasks is to translate into products, services, or features those aspects that are important and meaningful for others, not for you, so that everyone will value your company as it deserves.

You have value

Probably more than you think. And people have to see value on what you are doing. One of the ways is not saying yes to everything, it sounds suspicious. You are good at something, while you cannot do others things. Don’t pretend to be doing everything. Your value is then diluted. If you are struggling, it’s sometimes hard to say no, but the long term goal shall not be lost. If it helps you in terms of money, learning, or network, don’t hesitate, but please be brave and say no when you are asked for things you would prefer not to be doing. Or people you don’t like ask you to build something. Life is short.

Exit strategies

At the beginning of our company, we presented our project in front of investors, in contests, to the media, and we got to know a number of start-ups. Some of them are doing really great now, and some disappeared. But that’s life.

I still remember those whose clear exit strategy was being acquired. Sure, it is a good point in one’s life when someone else values what you have done and is willing to buy the company you created. But starting the company willing to sell from day -1  is radically different. You need to do something first, have the connections in the vertical you are addressing, and grow fast, much faster than you might be able to handle.

You will do things just to put your company in a better position of being acquired, rather than giving something valuable to your clients. It tells lots of things about the founding members.

What you should do is focus on having fun with what you are doing. Money will come.
